Eastern Washington is home to many diverse ecosystems and so many native plants supporting those ecosystems. From wetlands to prairie, forest to channeled scablands, there are flourishing ecosystems chock full of plants that are well adapted to their environment.
In the Fall of 2018, we moved our family from a restricted gated community in hopes of finding something to ground our family. Little did we know that it would literally be the ground that did it.
Our Flag Means Death: In 1717, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) is an aristocrat who abandons a life of luxury to follow his dream of being a pirate. Spokane was a major hub for a number of railroads in the late 1800’s right up to today. Companies like the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Burlington Northern, Milwaukee Road, Union Pacific. Spokane International, Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railroads served the area and branched out to almost every community to serve farmers, ranchers and passengers who used railroads as their primary form of transportation and shipping
When we went under contract for the purchase of our house last year, my husband and I fantasized about all the fruit trees, flowers and vegetables we could plant and harvest. Fast forward to one growing season, multiple soil tests, countless tilling, and forever mulching later only to discover all that we wanted to plant won’t grow in our dirt. Insert face palm here. Gone are the dreams of cherries, peaches, plums and peonies. Our cowgirls ride for the love of riding and the thrill of working in the outdoors riding hills and canyons, moving cows through some of the roughest country in the Pacific Northwest. They’re good at what they do. The ranchers know that. These women have a lot of heart and “git up and go.” In most cases, more than enough for this tough job.
This scenic route is a family favorite to explore the area north of Republic, historical ranching and gold mining areas where you can drive right through the old gold fields and past current mining operations, such as Kinross Gold’s K2 mine, and get amazing mountaintop views just outside of Curlew, and finish the day with a great lunch at Tugboat’s in Curlew and stay at the Curlew RV park.
