This time of year, it’s easy to feel cooped up. That’s why Zack and I have to do some happy hour hopping. We have been loving hanging out at Zola in downtown Spokane.
What we enjoyed:
~ Smashburger and fries
~ Zola Mac
~ Fish & chips
~ Orange Julius cocktail
I ordered the smashburger. They take a thin, juicy patty and sear it with onions then melt a thick slice of cheddar cheese on top and add dill pickles. They load everything on a fluffy brioche bun with a healthy smear of their signature sauce. I chose to add fries. They were breaded and fried to golden perfection, served with a warm blue cheese-style dipping sauce. I devoured it.
Zack wasn’t super hungry, so he went with the Zola Mac. They use penne noodles smothered in a white cheese sauce and packed with bacon bits. It’s served with a toasted crostini and garnished with a little fresh parsley. The noodles were cooked just right and I couldn’t stop stealing bites.
A family member with us ordered the fish & chips. Fluffy white cod gets dunked in beer batter and deep fried till golden brown. It comes with their delicious tavern fries, herbaceous tartar and a side of coleslaw. Their coleslaw leaned towards the tangy side of the spectrum. I loved it but if you prefer your coleslaw sweeter it may not be your style.
The ambiance of Zola is amazing. They have live music most nights and the artists are always wonderful and make the mood even better. It’s never too loud, so you can still have conversations while you eat. The interior reminds us of a quirky tree house with unique lighting and funky decor.
Their happy hour is daily from 4-7 p.m. Not only do they have great deals on food, but they have amazing cocktails too. I ordered the Orange Julius, which they make with vanilla and orange vodka with sour, orange juice, and Sprite. It tasted exactly right and I am obsessed.
Zack and I can’t wait to visit in the summer. They have a darling patio that will be so fun for sitting in the sun and sipping cocktails.
