Katz Realty: “It’s About Helping People”

by Amy McGarry

You certainly know that the housing market of today makes it an incredibly good time to sell a house. What you might not know is the best way to go about it. For example, you might think that choosing a big real estate company will give you the greatest exposure, increasing your chances of the best deal. Not the case. Just ask Patrick Katz, owner of Katz Realty based in Davenport.

Patrick Katz and his current team of 11 brokers not only strive to provide clients with the best service and best representation but can also guarantee the best advertising exposure. This includes listings on all the big websites like Zillow and Trulia. Katz Realty is a member of the largest Multiple Listing Service in Washington State, the Northwest Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Unlike the other MLS’s in Washington, the Northwest MLS services every county in the state and currently boasts 32,385 members.

Katz Realty’s Northwest MLS membership is one of the many ways the brokers at Katz Realty do everything they can to help their clients. This quality service is recognized by the Better Business Bureau who has honored Katz Realty with an A+ rating.

When it comes to real estate, Katz Realty service expands much beyond buying and selling houses. According to their website, “We offer our services to Buyers and Sellers of all property types including… Bare Lots, Large Acreage Parcels, Commercial Properties, Agricultural Properties and Lake Properties. With our location and large coverage area, we service properties that represent a wide variety of terrain, from the “mountains” to the “dry desert” and from the “rural communities” to the “city”. Washington State has a little of everything and we can help you find it.”

In fact, Katz Realty covers every county that touches Lincoln County, including Lincoln County itself. Patrick has brokers in Davenport, Spokane, Airway Heights, Reardan, Odessa, Ritzville, Wilbur and Lind. And Patrick is always looking for new brokers to join his “family” at Katz Realty. Not only does Patrick personally train all the brokers at Katz, he continues to support them throughout their careers, providing advice and help whenever needed. This is another way that Katz provides quality real estate service in a way the larger, national firms cannot. The booming market has brought in a plethora of new agents in the field who are not as well-trained or supported as the folks at Katz Realty. More importantly, the Katz team shares the values of honoring people over money and caring for the customer.

Patrick’s own calling to a career in real estate began with a love of architecture and interest in houses. Add his joy in meeting new people and commitment to helping others, real estate is a perfect career. But it was also a family affair.

Patrick’s father, Bill Katz, moved to Davenport as a young man and worked as a mechanic in local garages. In 1970, Bill built his own garage and opened his own mechanic shop where he ran the business for over 20 years. Patrick speaks fondly of “growing up in the shop” and started working as a mechanic himself in junior high school. He also speaks proudly of his father’s community service as an ambulance driver for over 25 years and a member of the fire department for over 35 years.
When Bill wanted to shift away from mechanics due to his age and changes in the field, friends talked him into real estate.
Meanwhile, Patrick was finding his way in the world. He worked as a mechanic on the Olympic Peninsula for a while. He moved back to attend Spokane Falls Community College to study music. Patrick plays guitar and is passionate about all kinds of music. His studies even led him into recording. A music career wasn’t in the stars for Patrick. But there was still his love of houses and desire to help people. So, it wasn’t long before he followed in his father’s footsteps.

In 1997, Patrick earned his own real estate license and began helping his father. In 2003 Patrick became a broker and opened Katz Realty, Inc. It’s been almost 20 years since opening, and Patrick says he’s loved every minute of it. Adding even more joy for Patrick, two of his three daughters have joined the business. His oldest, Makaylah, will become the online advertising person. His second, Caitlyn, just got her real estate license and has joined the firm.

When I spoke with Patrick about the housing market a year ago, he called the housing market at the time “insane” and confessed he couldn’t predict what would happen. He still calls the market crazy, and still admits he doesn’t know the future of the market. It’s not an easy time for buyers as prices have continued to soar.

Luckily, Patrick has plenty of outlets for managing any stress that comes with the territory. Patrick describes himself as a motorcycle enthusiast. “I just love to ride and see the country.” His current ride is a 2002 Honda VTX 1800. He’s even attended Sturgis twice and looks forward to attending again or branching out to other events.

When not seeing the country open-air astride his bike, he views it from the comfort of his RV, another one of his hobbies. Should a local lake send a calling to him, he’ll be on it with his boat.

These and other outdoor activities are some of the many reasons Patrick has chosen Davenport to make his home. It was the perfect place to raise his family. And the perfect place for a real estate business like Katz Realty, where honesty, ethics, and most importantly, caring about people come first.
