Chewelah keeps on growing, and there is now an awesome new Mexican restaurant, Gordo’s Cantina.
What we enjoyed:
Tacos Placeros
Carne Asada Burrito
Vampiro Cocktail
House Margarita
Zack and I both ordered chef favorite items. I got the Tacos Placeros. They fill slightly toasted tortillas with tender, juicy chunks of beef cheek. Then, they’re topped off with cilantro, white onions, and pickled red onions. The meat was so tender it seemed to melt in my mouth. The combination of salty, savory meat and acidic pickled onion struck the perfect balance. The tacos are only $10 for three, but you can upgrade and add rice and beans for $5 more. I got mine with Rancho beans. The rice was flavorful and had a good texture.
Zack ordered the carne asada burrito, which had such a delicious, unique flavor. The burrito comes packed with savory, salty carne asada, refried beans, Mexican rice, and shredded lettuce. Then they top it off with queso fresco, sour cream, guacamole, and red burrito sauce. It also comes with pico de gallo, which Zack opted to have on the side. The burrito had so much flavor.
Not only do they have an outstanding food menu, but they have a great cocktail list too. One that we hadn’t heard of before was called “Vampiro.” Zack loves all things vampire, so of course he ordered it. It’s a mix of house sangria, soda water, and tequila with a Tajín rim. He loved it so much he never even finished his soda.
They have been open for a little while now, and we have ordered takeout but never had the chance to dine in. We sat upstairs, which is a bar area, so only 21+, but it had great views of Quartzite Mountain, and the staff was all very sweet and attentive.
With the addition of Nina’s Thai and now Dos Gordo’s, Chewelah has really grown its restaurant scene. Make sure to stop by and try out this great new spot.
