Holiday Happenings in Harrington

by Cassie Nixon

This past week was a busy one for the residents of Harrington. On Saturday, the last Cross-Country meet of the season was held at Harrington Golf and Country Club. The girls’ Volleyball team traveled to Cusik to play their last game of the season and came home in time to catch the Launch Party of Harrington’s newest business: Harrington Bear Company, which was held at The Post and Office

Business owners, Amber and Garrett Green were happy to report on the success of their Launch Party:

“The launch party was really successful, and we had a lot of people come and support us.  Several children hand stuffed plushies but most people preferred us using the stuffing machine.  It was busy and a little chaotic, but it was fun.  We plan on doing more parties, including one strictly for adults as well as craft parties for kids.  Unicorns, panthers, and sloths were the most popular as well as cheerleaders and cowboys.   We couldn’t be more happy with the support and love that the local community gave us, and we look forward to more events in the near future.”

The local children and their families enjoyed the Halloween Carnival – participating in the variety of games, scoring cupcakes at the cupcake walk, craft tables, and having their photo taken in costume. The PTA had a pizza dinner available for dinner, and the event was very well attended.

Looking forward in the holiday season, the FBLA group is hosting Turkey Bingo on Sunday, November 17 from 12:30 to 3:00 PM at the school. They invite the public to bring their friends and family to enjoy some quality time together enjoying food and fun. The Harrington Homemakers will be serving food this year, and Bingo will begin at 1:00 PM and will go until the prizes are gone.

A few weeks later, the annual Harrington Hometown Christmas Celebration will follow on Saturday, December 7th. Santa will arrive by firetruck escort at 10:30 AM and he will be available for pictures from 11 to 1 at the Harrington Opera House. The Holiday Bazaar will once again be held in the Harrington Memorial Hall with a variety of vendors to help you fulfill your Christmas shopping list. The Harrington Music Program will have Homemade soup and rolls served from 11-4, and live performances can be enjoyed throughout the day. As always, there will be FREE kids’ crafts from 1-3, and the Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin promptly at 5:00 PM. Elementary students will favor the public with holiday favorites.

We hope to see our neighbors and friends from surrounding towns join us in our festivities!
